Homebrew Biology Club

The Homebrew Biology Club (HBC) is an experimental, digital community that unites builders in biology. It is modeled on Palo Alto's Homebrew Computer Club. Check out our Discord Server!

Open Contest

For its inaugural event, HBC is hosting an open contest. Our goal is to highlight biologists building exciting and ambitious projects in their garages.

We welcome a wide range of project ideas; here are some for inspiration:

• An open-source, inexpensive electroporator.
• An enzymatic cortisol biosensor inspired by commercial continuous glucose monitors.
• An automated system for continuous directed evolution of enzymes.

Submissions

To submit your project, please create an open lab notebook as a Google Doc and share it with mm[at]spero.bio.

This submission method is designed to encourage early collaboration and feedback from judges and peers. Your notebook will be added to this folder, where you'll also be able to view others' projects. For an example, check out this project notebook.

Finalists will be chosen in early December, with final presentations on December 16th via Zoom.
